Collection: E.C. Munson

E.C. Munson is a self-taught photographer who has built five darkrooms over the years as well as having taught photography at the secondary school level.  Accepted into the Latow Photography Guild from the Art Gallery of Burlington in May 2018, munson is affiliated and active with several other southern Ontario arts organizations, including the Headwaters Arts group, Beaux Arts Gallery, and Joshua Creek Heritage Arts Centre.

The Headwaters Region and Caledon Hills have a strong resonance for munson, who grew up in the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York.  The dramatic glaciation alongside the farmers’ fertile fields, rolling hills, and wooded areas which imprinted their beauty and grandeur decades ago, are echoed now as a constant inspiration for photo shoots.  Misty Realms and Hoary Frost were recent captures along Heart Lake Road in Caledon.

Current projects include several shows and exhibits throughout southern Ontario and the imminent launch of a second set of Limited Edition Giclee prints on archival art paper.  In 2018 the first set, Analogue Meets Digital, from an archival collection of Kodachrome 64 slides was printed.  The 2019 set comes from the photographer’s B&W negatives, circa 1980 – 1990’s.  The melding of analogue with digital continues to inform munson’s artistic practice.
